About the tutors

Rachel Demuth

Rachel Demuth

The courses are run by Rachel Demuth who has been a professional vegetarian chef since the early 80s. She was a founder member of Neals' Yard Bakery in Covent Garden, London and in 1984 opened Broad Street Bakery in Bath pioneering organic, vegetarian and vegan cooking.

In 1987 she started Demuths restaurant, which is now one of the most successful vegetarian restaurants in Britain, specializing in unpretentious, creative and healthy food.
She has written three vegetarian cookery books as well as traveled extensively, teaching vegetarian cooking, sharing ideas, picking up tips, gathering recipes and cooking techniques around the world.
In 2001 she started the Vegetarian Cookery School to teach people how to cook the ‘Demuths’ style of delicious, uncomplicated and easy to make vegetarian food.

Jan Berridge

Jan has taught at the Cookery School since the beginning and also works part-time at the restaurant. She is first and foremost an artist and a very accomplished food stylist. She has created many of the recipes taught at the cookery school and her specialties are desserts, perfect pastry and presentation.

Jo Ingleby

Jo was head chef at Demuths for several years, before becoming a mum, she now works part-time at the Cookery School. She is a trained chef and an expert in knife skills and chefs tips. Her first love is anything Spanish and makes the perfect tortilla, she also teaches nutrition and anything involving kids.

Jo Watson

Jo looks after all the administration and teaches at the cookery school. She has managed and been head chef at Demuths.
