Chinese New Year Celebration
Sachiko Saeki teaches our popular sushi courses and is also an expert in Chinese cooking, she is a professional chef who learnt to cook in her parents sushi restaurant in Japan and her husband is Chinese. She will be showing us how easy and exciting Chinese cuisine can be for vegetarians.
Sachiko was on TV in the autumn showing Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall how to prepare Sushi in his Vegetable TV series on Channal 4.
Chinese New Years Eve dinner is comparable to our Christmas dinner and is the most important family meal of the year, on New Years Day, many Chinese abstain from meat, as they believe this will ensure a long life!
Sachiko will introduce and explain how to use the ingredients and cooking methods which are fundamental to cooking authentic Chinese.
You will make Steamed mooli cake made with rice flour, sweet corn and spring onion with chilli oil. Star anise infused cashew nuts cooked with colourful vegetables. Shitake mushroom, bamboo shoots, chestnuts in white and black glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo leaf, ‘Father’s Day Old Yam’ and to finish Sesame and sweet potato balls in a jasmine syrup.
